Wedding season trends for 2015/16

#what’s hot (and what’s so not…)

It’s that time of year again… WEDDING SEASON!!! And to say I’m as excited as a kid on Christmas Eve is an understatement. Nothing floats my boat more! 3am starts and 3am finishes, kilometers of travel to and from different venues, and that sweet, sweet aroma of a van full of fresh blooms and foliage! Its what I live and breathe…

Wedding season upon wedding season, bring us new and different trends. For the last few years, a rustic and vintage theme has taken centre stage, and some of you may be relieved to hear that it’s definitely on the outer… (I know I am) After all, there is only so much burlap wrapped mason jars one can handle…

This year I am super pumped for the incoming wedding season trends. ( I did just scream on the inside with excitement).. Here are my top 5 trends for the 2015-2016 wedding season…

1. HANGING DECOR!!!

Hell yes… For the brides I have worked with and for the ones I am yet to work with, you will know that I LOVE HANGING INSTALLATIONS… Lights, flowers, custom signs.. I am obsessed…

2. TEXTURED WILD FLOWERS…

As of late, there has been a noticeable shift away from the traditional flower arrangements. It has been “see ya later structure” and “hello to free spirited florals”. We are seeing nature at its finest. Forgotten flowers like carnations, bouvardia and poppies are becoming favourites. Rambling foliage garlands with spills of peonies and david austin roses are draping tables.

3. CONCRETE, TIMBER & METAL…

I love this trend. Hardwood timber arches, concrete vases and metal candle holders. Redwood timber slices are on the outer, with victorian ash hardwood and raw pine being the new favorites. Concrete bricks are being transformed into vases filled with dusty miller, hydrangeas and garden roses.

4. BULK FLOWERS…

I’m not just talking about a few flowers here and there.. Im talking about flowers…EVERYWHERE!! Floral table centre pieces, foliage garlands draping over your bar, flower crowns, floral stationary, foliage draped arches….. the list goes on!

5. CANDLES…AND A LOT OF THEM!!

Candles create intimacy, its what they do. (and of course help you see in the dark when the power goes out).. But when it comes to weddings, nothing shouts romance more than the flicker of a candle in a dim room. You cant have a reception without candles… Its like having a birthday with out cake… No. It just doesn’t happen!!!
